Footprint Zero, Altology and Ivegate celebrate milestone solar project completion for LKQ UK & Ireland on a Tritax building, one of the largest roofs in the UK.
Footprint Zero is proud to announce the successful completion of a solar PV array on one of the largest commercial roofs in the UK. The cutting-edge system, installed on behalf of LKQ UK & Ireland and landlords Tritax, is located on a 792,000 sq ft facility near Tamworth and represents a significant contribution to sustainability in the automotive supply chain.
The 2,948 kWp solar system, which includes 5,896 high-performance JA Solar 505 Wp panels, is estimated to produce 2,459,398 kWh of clean energy annually. This solar energy will provide 32% of the total energy requirements at LKQ’s T2 site. The installation continues LKQ’s decarbonisation strategy which includes renewable energy investments to reduce the environmental impact of their operations.
The installation features 20 SolarEdge inverters (20 x SE100KW) to optimise energy performance, with a performance ratio (PR) of 87% and a site-specific yield of 826 kWh/kWp. The project was executed by solar installation experts Ivegate, with sustainability advice from Altology and solar expertise provided by Footprint Zero.
Tony Shearer, Chief Operating Officer at LKQ UK & Ireland, said:
“In responsibly managing the impacts of our operations, we are committed to further developing our decarbonisation roadmap. This solar installation is one of the key levers to achieve this as we can now generate more than 32 per cent of our energy consumption at T2 through solar. Through collaboration with our partners, we now have a system that maximises the solar capacity of the roof footprint, and this represents a major step forward in our sustainability journey.”
Julian Pertwee, Director of Footprint Zero, said:
“We are incredibly proud to have worked on such a transformative project for LKQ UK & Ireland and Tritax. Delivering this state-of-the-art solar system, which has the capability to deliver significant CO2 emission reductions is a huge achievement for our team. It highlights the critical role renewable energy plays in reducing our environmental impact and moving towards a more sustainable future.”
This project marks a significant milestone in the UK’s journey toward reducing its external energy consumption and reinforces Footprint Zero’s commitment to helping businesses embrace renewable solutions.
